"Best Design Award winner at 2005 Sydney Bloom Festival. Design by Universal Landscapes featuring the Fytocell garden wall"

FYTOGREENS’S   STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN

The Brisbane Ideas Festival held at Southbank, Brisbane in April 2006 was a great success.

Fytocell played an integral part of the Queensland DPI (Department of Primary Industries) display at the recent Ideas Festival. With foam supplied by Fytogreen-Fytocell, the DPI was able to create a range of unique displays involving turf and herbs.

Grass steps laid on concrete steps made a stunning feature alongside the wall and rail.  Depending on the amount of foot traffic, different grasses or foam can be used. Regular watering from the top is sufficent to keep the grass green and growing as the foam will absorb the moisture.

The panels-modules were placed horizontially in the nursery and thoroughly wet before the turf was laid. The variety used was Zoyia. This was done approximately 4 weeks before the festival. The turf modules were then laid on the concrete and the risers cut. An outside border was made to protect the foam and roots from exposure to the sun.

Fytocell turf modules can be used in apartment gardens and business precincts, particularly in areas which have limited space. With increasingly smaller house sections and a huge awareness about water saving, our modular turf also provides an excellent option for the home owner.

Bollards galore! An option for councils is the use of the same turf modules atop street bollards creating a living parcel in a sea of concrete. The effect is quite stunning and can also be used to grow herbs or small grasses in a very limited amount of  space..

How does Fytocell work? Fytocell holds no more than 60% water and so it can not be overwatered, but at the same time provides a great reservoir of water in dry conditions.  Due to the waterholding capacity of Fytocell foam, it can be watered by hand at extended intervals, more than many other growing media types.

The remaining percentage, consists of 37% air by volume. This allows the plants to grow a mass of fine root hairs which is the key to nutrient and oxygen exchange. The result is a better, healthier plant.

Does it sound too good to be true? It’s not ! This is just a taste of what the Fytocell Turf Module can be used for. Why not call us today to obtain more information.
