Modular Turf
 What is Modular Turf?
Modular Turf is a living module of healthy growing turf. Suitable
for indoor or outdoor use. The turf modules are relatively easy to
handle and can be cut to size or shape to fit almost any design.
They are only for horizontal placement. Modular turf can be used
as a feature using different turf varieties. Highlighted using lights
or made into different shapes. Modular Turf allows you to be creative.
Create a green stairway, cover bollard tops or tanks.
Why use Fytowall for ‘Modular Turf”?
Modular Turf is an aminoplast resin foam. This results in a light,
but very stable and firm white spongy pH neutralised growing media.
Totally environmentally friendly.
Product Range:
Modular Turf has a range of module sizes. However the module FWMT12
is the standard size. These modules are planted with harvested
turf rolls.
Size:
The interchangeable panels come in a standard size of 100cm long
x 50cm high x 12cm depth. (FWMT12). This equates to 0.5m2 in area
and 60 litres of volume. We can also custom make panels of different
lengths to suit a project.
How do I get turf to grow on the Fytowall foam modules?
 Modular
Turf has a balanced air/water ratio over the panel depth, which enables
good water holding capacity through the depth of the panel profile,
which enables turf roots to grow through the foam as though it was
soil.The turf species selected, must be suitable to the region and
climatic conditions that is the “Modular Turf” will be
grown in.
Fytogreen will plant and grow in all panels for installation of
the Modular Turf panels..
Weight:
The standard panel FWMT12 has an absolute saturated weight of 50kg
per 0.5m2 or 100kg per m2 without turf. However under normal watering
conditions, you could expect the panels to be at approximately 25-35%
saturation by volume. ie . holding 25-35L of water and nutrients.
This equates to 12.5-17.5kg per 0.5m2 panel. Turf weight per panel
will up to 12kg per 0.5m2 and 24kg/m2 for turf panels.
Are there limits to Modular Turf?
Foot traffic: Modular Turf will only perform under low – medium
foot traffic conditions. Modular Turf can be grown in exterior or
interior spaces. The overriding factor will be turf selection and
available UV light.

Turf Modules are installed as 100cm long x 50cm wide x 12cm depth.
Other sizes are possible on request.
How
do I install Modular Turf? – see Design Section
A very simple profile has to be created.
1) Firstly Low Density Plastic (LDP) is laid on top of the concrete.
2) Add to the top of this 20mm high Fytonop (a firm plastic sheet
with a series of raised knobs, which creates
space for excess water to drain away)
3) Then a layer of Geo-fabric
4) Finally the Turf Module
Modular Installation
Fytogreen will install the turf modules. Pricing for this will be
included in our quote.
Irrigation Design & Installation
Fytogreen offers a separate service to design and install the required
irrigation system.
Depending on the size of the area, an apartment balcony can be hand
watered or a larger area with a specialisedsystem.
