Freshwater Place: Melbourne’s Southbank next to Crown Casino.
In 2004 Multiplex built Freshwater Place Residential Tower. On
level 10 above the car park area is 1600m2 roof garden. The Landscape
Architect is Laurence Blyton from LBA. The profile under the turf
is 350mm thick.
Img 0635 shows the pouring on site of the Hydrocell RG30 sub
topsoil layer. Our equipment is all portable to site. Also seen
is the Hydrocell-40 Podium soil mix stockpiled ready to spread
over the Hydrocell RG30 100mm thick layer.

Overlooking this Tall Fescue grass
and deciduous tree area is the swimming pool and sun bathing area,
all on the 10th floor
3. April 2006
Shows the gardens have
grown with the ground covers maturing and trees in full leaf and
the turf looking lush. All with a very open free draining profile
with no slumpage
4. Extensions
Currently the roof garden is
being extended with more tree mounds, a path and a seat allowing
a quite space in a beautiful garden 10 floors above Southbank.
The new plantings are just starting in the foreground while the
older plants are well established.
Condor Tower was built in 2005 the Architects were the Tract
team managed by Melissa Dunlop.
720 square meters of turf on
the 4th floor over looking Docklands. Turf grown in only a 175mm
thick profile (from concrete slab to top.)
The profile has 25mm Fytonop drain layer, Geofabric 2mm, Hydrocell
RG30 sub topsoil layer 60mm, Hydrocell-40 Podium soil mix 88mm.
The combination of Hydrocell RG30 and Hydrocell-40 podium soil
mix makes this possible by enabling a larger volume available for
root growth compared to using just sand as a sub top soil layer.
This photo shows the grass doing well 1 year
later along the crazy paved area, with no slumpage.
RACV Building built in 2005 has a number of planter boxes on
the ground floor and second floor podium.
The
image to the right are the“built-in” planter
boxes around the edge of the second floor roof garden area.
The photo below shows the tree planter boxes that actually drain
on to the white paving with no staining and no slumpage seen,
9 months after establishment.

The combination of Hydrocell 40 Podium mix with the Hydrocell
RG30 pre-cut foam slabs makes this possible. Hydrocell-40 Podium
mix has only 5% organics and the Hydrocell RG30 filters and protects
the layers below by preventing fines and staining.
Kids on Collins

In 2005 Suncorp renovated the Planter Boxes on the roof play area
at “Kids on Collins” Child care Centre.
The Planter Boxes were 400mm deep with a range of established
plants.
The play area and the planter boxes are all child friendly, nestled
deep in the heart of the CBD.
