Tree planting with Hydrocell

Your new trees and shrubs will flourish with less water and establish faster when you add Hydrocell during planting.
Follow our simple step-by-step guide...

Step 1: To prevent airborne dust, take your bag of Hydrocell to the planting area, open, and wet the contents with a hose for up to 2 minutes.

Step 2: Pre-dig plant hole to required depth (this should be approx. twice the size of plant rootball). Place a quantity of loose soil at bottom of hole.

Step 3: Apply Hydrocell at 30% by volume to the “back fill” soil volume.
NB: (Typically the planter hole is twice the size of the rootball volume. Therefore the ‘backfill’ volume equals the rootball volume.)

Step 4: Position plant in the hole ready for the backfill soil to be added.

Step 5: Fill hole with water before backfilling. Place another half a container of Hydrocell with the backfill soil and blend to mix.

Step 6: Backfill mixture of soil and Hydrocell.

Step 7: Mulch thickly, making sure that you keep the mulch away from the trunk of the tree.

Hydrocell Trial conducted by Hume City Council

Trees with and without Hydrocell were planted into heavy
basaltic clay on a site exposed to strong westerly winds drying
out the soil. “The difference between the two treatments was remarkable.
The backfill soil of the treated trees was moist and wet.
The backfill soil of the untreated trees was dry with no new root growth
evident.”
Jason Summers – Open Space Coordinator, VIC
This trial was set up in June 2005.

Greening Australia, Brisbane Trial

“If you look closely at the strip of 1,500 trees planted along the
front of the metal sound barrier on Gympie Road just north of
Webster Road you can see the spot where Greening Australia
stopped using water crystals and changed to Hydrocell. The spot
where the water crystals stop is where the plants change from
average condition to rich green thriving on Hydrocell enriched
soil.”
Vin Naidoo, Greening Australia, QLD.
