ROOF GARDEN

COMPLETION
2011

Working with landscapers ANL, Fytogreen reviewed and developed the design, supplied, installed and planted this semi-extensive roof garden on the Royal Childrens Hospital.  The gardens total  360 square metres of semi-extensive green roofs.  The roof garden profile is160mm deep mounded up to 300mm in places to accommodate larger plants.

There is a growing trend towards green roofs, intensive roof gardens and green walls in health facilities as research has proven the health benefits of green spaces and views to assist patient recovery.

The design required low allergy
species due to the sensitivity of the patients,
therefore Fytogreen planted succulents such as
sedums, beschoneria septentrionalis and Yucca
flamentosa, as well as Liriope and Ficus Hilli. The
depth ranged from 130mm through to 430mm and
planters at 600mm.

Green Roof, Living Roofs

The role of environment, place and emotion in the healing process has been researched and there is a growing trend to include green roofs and vertical gardens in health buildings.
